Technical Designer/Colourist
Location: Toronto, ON

We are a high "powered womens apparel retailer operating stores across Canada. Our Head Office based in the Toronto area requires a talented Technical Designer to join our dynamic team. The candidate should have a solid technical design background with strong fit skills.

Responsible for the technical design-product development process from initial development to final production

Attends product development meetings and is responsible to determine all technical design related requirements. Works closely with Design and Buying Teams to maintain design and fit integrity of the product.

Identify potential production, quality, costing and design issues and make appropriate recommendations.

Create and maintain Technical Packs, specifying garment construction, trims, fabrics and measurements.

Create detailed diagrams including digital pictures to explain corrections / construction details to the factories, record fit comments and garment measurements.

Responsible for executing and maintaining consistent fit, grading, construction approvals and accurate garment specifications.

Effectively communicate product comments to overseas and domestic partners within deadlines.

Reviewing and analyse Lab test reports. Conduct in house wash tests communicating any concerns to management with recommendation for further action.

Support Customer Service and stores with product related issues.

Works closely with design/ merchants ensuring colour consistency across all commodities.

Manages all lab dip approvals communicating to the vendor base accordingly while ensuring time lines are met.


Diploma or specialized certificate in Fashion Design/Technical Design/Colour Theory

3+ years experience in apparel development; technical design/fit technician/pattern making/grading with reputed brand /retailer.

Excellent knowledge of Garment construction, pattern making and grading.

Colour theory background with a critical eye for colour matching.

Strong computer skills with a proficiency in Excel, Outlook (Adobe illustrator skills an asset)

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

Enjoy working in a team environment with strong attention to detail is a must.

Ability to work independently, strong organizational skills to establish priorities and meet specific timelines.
